After Care Instructions
what To do
Always wash your hands with a antibacterial soap before cleaning your tattoo. Make sure the antibacterial soap is unscented as that can irritate the new tattoo. The bandage can be left on overnight, after removing the bandage, rinse the tattoo with warm water and dry with a paper towel. Wash your tattoo at least 2 times a day with the antibacterial soap and apply a thin layer of ointment. (Aquaphor, Lubriderm or ink defense. If you have a different type of preferred ointment/moisturizer, please let your artist know what brand.)
Tips to remember
*Change your sheets:
When your sleeping you are shedding everything, skin, hair and sweat. This can increase the chances for infection.
*Do not use bar soap:
Bar soap can hold bacteria which can be passed on to your new tattoo.
*Pets:
They can carry harmful bacteria wherever they walk, lie, or brush against. Wash and reapply ointment whenever you come in contact with them.
* Do not wear restrictive clothing:
The tattoo will form a scab with the fabric you are wearing or laying on. if this happens, get in the shower with what you are wearing and gently remove the clothing.
What not to do
Do not use a tanning bed for at least a month after getting your tattoo. Use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo when in the sun. Do not soak in any waters (Lakes, Ocean, Bathtubs, and Pools) for at least a month after getting your tattoo. Avoid heavy sweating in the area of your tattoo for at least two weeks after getting your tattoo.
what to expect
You tattoo and the area surrounding may be slightly swollen and red for the next week following. Color may seep to the surface (It is okay to wipe this off with a clean paper towel and reapply ointment.) Do not let your tattoo stick to the sheets or clothing as this can pull off the scab and color and result in a rough heal. A thin scab should form evenly over the entire tattoo and should peel similarly to a sunburn. Do not pick at the scab. The color may dull of uneven while tattoo is healing. Your new tattoo should be completely healed after one month. Shading may seem dark but will fade up to 40% throughout the healing process.
Saniderm and second skin
Keep on 3-6 days. Depending on the comfort and size of area covered. Wash skin well after removal to removed the dried plasma and excess ink. you will see your plasma pool or look dried and crackled under the bandage, this is completely normal. The liquid may turn brown depending on the colors used and size of the tattoo; Normal. If your plasma "goo" seeps out in any direction take the whole bandage off immediately and treat the fresh tattoo like normal. It can be worn in the shower, do not over saturate. It is an adhesive and can peel off. If rash or irritation develops, remove it.
